Wow, my respect for the “simple housewife” has increased a hundred fold since becoming a carer, what a fantastic job they do and should not be taken for granted.
As a carer you can expect to be a lot of things,
- admin bitch (my words not Julie’s),
- washer upper,
and that is just a few of those things, but you do them out of love not necessity.
Now don’t get me wrong, Julie does what she can but with dizzy spells, twitching, foggy brain, lack of strength or stamina this is limited, but she gives it a go and still finds time to worry about me.
One of the things that a carer needs to be aware of is not to become too controlling, despite being a sufferer you cannot wrap them up in cotton wool, they still need to have a say in things and feel part of a team. It is not an autocracy but a democracy and I am guilty of forgetting this at times, but apparently I am getting better.
